'A lot of' – Kobbie Mainoo names four Man Utd stars among his closest friends, the right people surround him

Manchester United and England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has revealed the four closest friends he has in the Red Devils’ first-team squad at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo has enjoyed a remarkable season at Manchester United after his emergence in the first team under Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag has been impressed with the development of the 18-year-old Mainoo, who came through the United youth academy.

Mainoo has earned high praise this season after his sensational impact, with the United talent firmly establishing himself in the Premier League club’s senior squad.

The Stockport-born player has featured in 17 Premier League matches – starting all of them as well – and scored twice for the Red Devils in the league.

Mainoo has impressed with his midfield presence and has produced consistent performances for United this season.

The United midfielder also made his senior international debut for England during the March international break after Gareth Southgate made a U-turn on his decision.

Gareth Southgate had snubbed Mainoo before calling him up for England, with the United star impressing in the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium last month.

Mainoo on his four close Man Utd friends

Kobbie Mainoo has been tipped to make the England squad for Euro 2024 in Germany this summer after his scintillating season with Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag has spoken highly of the Three Lions international, with Mainoo becoming a highlight for United fans in an underwhelming season for the club.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Mainoo took part in a Q&A involving fans and opened up about his close friends at Old Trafford.

The England and United midfielder admitted that both Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo would be two of his friends from the first-team squad.

Mainoo has spoken highly of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho in the past, with the United star coming through the youth academy alongside the latter.

The England international added that fellow academy talent Willy Kambwala and United striker Rasmus Hojlund are also among his close friends at the club.

“Maybe [Alejandro] Garnacho or Amad,” Mainoo said.

“Yeah, or maybe Willy [Kambwala]. A lot of the young guys, lots of the young lads. Rasmus [Hojlund] as well.”

Man Utd star Mainoo on his role model

Mainoo shared a sneak peek into his elite mindset during the United fan Q&A after he was asked who would be his role model in life.

The United star refused to pick one and insisted that he picks up “different things from different people” in a way to improve himself.

“I can’t say that I have one,” he said.

“I like to pick different things from different people, whether it’s football players, I pick different things from their games to try and add to mine and stuff.

“So, I wouldn’t say I follow one person directly, if you know what I mean? I just try to pick up things as much as I can from other people.”
