Eddie Howe has now made a big prediction about the rest of Joelinton's career at Newcastle

Newcastle United may have concluded one of their biggest deals of the summer.

While it remains to be seen quite what Newcastle can do in the transfer market at the end of the season amid FFP constraints, Eddie Howe has already expressed his delight this week.

Yes, Lewis Hall can complete his permanent move to St James’ Park from Chelsea should results go Newcastle’s way this weekend.

Still, that’s not what we’re getting at.

Indeed, on Thursday, Joelinton signed a four-year contract on Tyneside.

There had been fears the Brazilian, so crucial to the way Howe plays, had already played his final game for the club having suffered what looked like a season-ending injury amid a contract dispute behind the scenes.

Such worries, however, have since been allayed and the 27-year-old has committed his future to Newcastle.

Now, Howe has made a big prediction on what might happen from here.

Speaking after the news broke, Howe suggested the midfielder could become one of the biggest icons in the club’s history.

He said (via Andy Sixsmith on X): “I think he can go on and become one of the biggest icons the club has had. He’s not here to waste time; he’s here to achieve.”

Joelinton’s wages at Newcastle are very reasonable

The only negative in signing a key player to a long-term contract at the peak of his powers would be if the club are spending a huge amount on wages.

With FFP looming, Newcastle can surely ill-afford to be fast and loose with their money.

Still, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Earlier this week, journalist Ben Jacobs hinted that Joelinton’s wages were above £100k-per-week but did perhaps not hit the truly huge sums that may have been reported elsewhere.

It seems Newcastle have struck a deal in keeping a key player happy without breaking the bank in order to do so.

Fantastic news all round.
