'I'm not so sure': Journalist shares what he's heard about Joelinton's wages in his new Newcastle contract

Newcastle United have received a major boost of late.

While Eddie Howe and his side remain in the midst of an unrelenting injury crisis ahead of another summer that could be complicated by yet more FFP issues, some good news has finally emerged for Newcastle.

Indeed, reports from The Daily Telegraph earlier this week claimed the club were finally set to agree a new contract with Joelinton.

The Brazilian’s current deal expires next summer and there were genuine fears he would have to be sold by PIF this summer in order to avoid him walking out in 2025 as a free agent.

Having suffered a groin injury in January too, Howe had even feared the 27-year-old had already played his final game for the club.

Now, however, he appears to have settled on a four-year deal at St James’ Park in a huge boost for everyone at the club.

One of the major sticking points during the club’s talks with Joelinton came down to his salary.

There have been reports he will now move into the club’s highest bracket of earners but journalist Ben Jacobs has shared what he’s hearing.

How much Joelinton could earn at Newcastle now

Speaking on the NUFC Matters show posted on YouTube, Jacobs said: “I’m not so sure that wages, as far as I’m told anyway, will quite be at the £160k-a-week mark, if that is even indeed the number that Bruno Guimaraes has committed to.

“Newcastle are conscious of both FFP and PSR rules. It will be over £100k-a-week for sure but I don’t think it’s quite as high as that £160k-a-week number.”

Joelinton’s salary at Newcastle will be worth it

The prospect of watching Joelinton continue his remarkable turnaround in fortune with another team was galling.

If Joelinton is on wages comparable to the rest of the squad, it’s a fantastic deal for the club. Howe has constantly praised him and values him so highly that it’s difficult to imagine Newcastle won’t be getting value for money over the coming years.

Joelinton has turned his Newcastle career around and deserves every bit of his new reward.
