‘Can compete against anyone’: Cesc Fabregas says £50m Man City player is impossible to dominate

Cesc Fabregas has highlighted how important one particular Manchester City player is for the team.

After winning the Treble last season, Pep Guardiola’s side are in the race to regain their three trophies.

In the midst of a crucial stage of their season, one pundit and former top-flight player, who has experience of playing under Guardiola, has shared his thoughts on one of City’s current stars who knows what it takes to win big trophies.

Speaking in a recent episode of Planet Premier League, Fabregas had this to say about Kyle Walker.

He said: “In those moments, they get away from you, they have this transition.

“This player can compete against anyone, his pace, for his power, for his experience, for his quality as well. He’s for me fundamental in this Manchester City [team].”

City signed the right-back from fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur back in the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth an initial fee of £50m.

Since then, the 33-year-old has gone on to make 292 appearances for the Manchester club across all competitions, chipping in with six goals and 21 assists, winning numerous European and domestic trophies along the way.

Kyle Walker has been a key figure for City

This season has not only seen Walker start 37 of the 38 games he’s appeared in across all competitions, but also don the captain’s armband in doing so, highlighting how important he is for the team.

A prime example of how significant the Englishman has been for the Citizens previously was during their 4-0 win over Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium last season where he managed to deliver a strong defensive display against Vinicius Junior, which ultimately earned him a lot of praise from Thierry Henry, who highlighted how Walker’s pace and strength make him such a hard opponent.

With the defender being out injured since the previous international break, it’s safe to say that City will need to have him back for as much of the season as possible if they want to have the best chance of regaining their three trophies.
