‘Wow’: Chris Waddle left stunned by what he saw from ‘important’ Man City player vs Real Madrid

Chris Waddle has heaped praise on one Manchester City player for what he did against Real Madrid last night.

In their first-leg tie against the Spanish side in this season’s quarter-final stage of the Champions League, the Blues came away with a 3-3 draw despite leading the game on two occasions.

At the end of what was a thrilling match between two of Europe’s best sides, one pundit pinpointed a specific figure in Pep Guardiola’s side that he was particularly impressed with on this occasion.

Waddle amazed by one Man City player against Real Madrid

Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport after the game, Waddle had this to say about Phil Foden including his goal at the Bernabeu and what he’s done throughout the whole season so far.

He said: “He’s a big part of Man City. He scores goals, it’s as simple as that. He’s very positive, he looks forward, he doesn’t think I’m just going to keep possession, he fits into the team.

“At the start of the second half they pushed him onto the right-wing to see if they could change something and maybe dominate the middle of the park with Bernardo Silva and then he just drifted in for his goal.

“One touch, out of his feet and wow, what a strike into the top, nobody saves them. He’s an important player because he does score goals.”

The 23-year-old scored City’s second goal last night with a top-corner finish from outside the box to get his team back on level terms with the home side.

Phil Foden is having a top season for City

With 45 games under his belt in this campaign across all competitions, the midfielder has now scored 22 goals and delivered 10 assists.

Four of those goals and four of his assists have come throughout the six Champions League games he’s appeared in, across which he has also made more passes into the penalty area (20) than any other City player and racked up more goal-creating actions (8).

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Waddle has been so impressed with the England international and what he’s done for his side this season.
