'So much more growth': Ange Postecoglou says Spurs have a 'super' 21-year-old for whom the sky's the limit

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has done a pretty good job since taking the reins at Spurs last summer, it has to be said.

When he arrived at Tottenham, the club seemed almost rudderless, having limped to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.

In addition, Spurs were without a technical director and Harry Kane looked set to leave the club where he made his name as a superstar.

However, everything has worked out pretty well for Tottenham after they appointed Postecoglou. They’re now in the driver’s seat to finish fourth.

But while the Spurs boss has revamped his playing squad, making a multitude of signings for the present and future, he’s also brought out the best in players who were already on the books.

For instance, Pape Matar Sarr has been a revelation this season. He was a fringe player last term, but this season he has been a key player for Postecoglou.

To date, the 21-year-old has made 42 appearances for Tottenham, including 27 Premier League outings this season.

And speaking ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Newcastle, Postecoglou couldn’t sing Sarr’s praises highly enough.

What has Spurs boss manager Ange Postecoglou said about Pape Matar Sarr?

“Pape has a super energy about him. Every day he trains with a smile on his face but he works damn hard,” the Tottenham head coach told football.london.

“I think he’s a really exciting footballer. He’s one of these midfielders you need these days, he’s very dynamic, he covers the ground really well, defensively and offensively.

“He gets into the box, he’s scored a couple of goals for us this year. His technical ability is strong and he’s a good ball carrier as well, and he’s still young.

He’s another one who I feel there is so much more growth in, in all aspects. I just really like his general demeanour.

He feels like he’s been blessed to have this opportunity and he’s going to do everything to make the most out of it.

“It’s great to have him as part of the group He’s very popular within the group because of his nature, but he’s a hell of a footballer.

I’ve got a lot of time for Pape and he’s another one where there’s just a lot of growth there from what I see.”

Spurs ace Pape Matar Sarr among the best young players in the world

Sarr has made such an impact that ESPN recently named him as one of the 39 best young footballers in the world.

They ranked the Spurs man in 26th place, above the likes of Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Chelsea’s Malo Gusto.

Tottenham have well and truly struck gold with Sarr, and it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop in the coming years.
