'Definitely': Jobi McAnuff now shares who he thinks will get automatically promoted from the Championship

Leeds United, Leicester City, Ipswich Town and even Southampton are all still fighting it out to win automatic promotion from the Championship.

All four sides have been faltering as of late and the door was blown wide open last night as Leicester City suffered another shock defeat away at Plymouth Argyle.

Leeds now have the chance to move top of the league in today’s early kick-off when they face relegation battling Blackburn Rovers, though Ipswich can ensure it is just for a few hours only as they host Middlesbrough.

Southampton are still someway back from the top three on 78 points, but do have a couple of games in hand and still face trips to both Leicester and Leeds, which does give them some hope.

In a race where it had looked like 100 points would be required just to finish second, the drop off in form from each of the sides has suddenly made for an incredible season finale.

McAnuff now shares who he thinks will get automatically promoted from the Championship

Pundits from across the footballing world have been giving their predictions over the last week or so, and it would be fair to say it is a race which is impossible to call.

Just a couple of days ago, Troy Deeney backed Ipswich to beat Leeds to a top two finish alongside Leicester, yet last night’s result may have just changed that.

And now Jobi McAnuff has become the latest pundit to offer his prediction on the race, suggesting there is one side he can definitely envisage finishing in the top two.

Speaking on the latest episode of BBC’s Football Daily Podcast, the former Reading winger has backed Leeds to be that side, due to the amount of attacking ‘firepower’ they have, as well as their remaining fixtures.

He said: “I still definitely have them to finish in the top two, I have given up on who might win the league. For me out of the three I would have Leeds in the top two ahead of Leicester and Ipswich, I just think they have got that firepower, they’ve got those players in the final third to do some damage.

“They’ve also got some decent games and I know everyone is scrapping like Blackburn and QPR, you would rather play them because over the course of the season they have not been very good.

“He is right about the penalty [vs Sunderland] on Luke O’Nien. How that hasn’t been given is ridiculous, he has pretty much punched the ball.”

Leeds need their attacking players firing again

On paper, Leeds do have the best and deepest set of attacking players in the division, and it would be fair to say they have shown that for most of the season.

However, since the international break, there has certainly been a drop off in form for Daniel Farke’s first choice front four, with only Crysencio Summerville really showing anything of note.

Farke certainly has plenty of options at his disposal if he wanted to change things, with Willy Gnonto, Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph all pushing to start.

Hopefully Farke is brave enough to make some changes after some of the disappointing displays of the last few weeks, as it could be exactly what Leeds need to return to form.
