More Than 40 People Still Stranded after Deadly Cable Car Accident in Turkey

More than 40 people are still stranded in cable cars in Turkey on Saturday after one of the cars collided with a pole and broke open, killing one person and injuring seven.

The accident happened Friday evening local time near the Mediterranean city of Antalya, theAssociated Press reported.

Rescue operations continued overnight.

After several hours of intence work 128 citizens in 16 pods have been "rescued under difficult conditions," Okay Memis, director of the Turkish search and rescue agency AFAD, told reporters Saturday morning, the AP reported.

"The rescue of 43 others in eight remaining pods is ongoing," added.

The passenger killed was identified as a 54-year-old Turkish man, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Six Turkish citizens and one Kyrgyz national are among the injured.
