Nottinghamshire County Council’s new on demand NottsBus travel comes to south Newark, covering Car Colston, Screveton, Flintham, Syerston, Elston, Thorpe, Hawton, Cotham, Kilvington, Alverton and Thoroton

Residents in the south of Newark are now able to travel without a fixed bus timetable after the launch of a new on demand bus service.

Nottsbus On Demand is currently being piloted in north and south Ollerton, Mansfield and West Rushcliffe and gives passengers the flexibility to travel anywhere between bus stops and designated points in the operating zone where there is not already a scheduled bus service running.

This further pilot for south Newark covers communities including Car Colston, Screveton, Flintham, Syerston, Elston, Thorpe, Hawton, Cotham, Kilvington, Alverton and Thoroton and passengers can travel between 9:30am and 2:30pm Monday to Saturday.

Thanks to the launch of the new zone, passengers will be able to connect to Newark Bus Station, Newark Showground, Newark Northgate and Castle train stations as well as Newark hospital, Bottesford Train Station and East Bridgford’s Blue Diamond Garden Centre.

Journeys can be booked with just a few taps of a smartphone thanks to an easy-to-use app, but passengers can also book by calling the dedicated Nottsbus On Demand phoneline on: 0115 804 0404.

The new service has replaced the 91, 856 and the 857 bus services.

Neil Clarke MBE, cabinet member for transport and environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “This is great news for residents in the villages between Bingham and Newark who will now have the freedom and flexibility to travel across their local area for work, education and leisure.

“Nottsbus On Demand buses will go to where passengers want them as opposed to travelling along a fixed route at set times. It’s still a bus service - not a door-to-door taxi service - but it is far more efficient, environmentally friendly and responsive to public need.

“The Nottsbus On Demand app is easy to download and use, but because we recognise that not everyone will have access to this technology, passengers can also call our dedicated phoneline to book a journey.

“Since we launched the first Nottsbus On Demand zone in August 2022, passengers have been boarding services to connect to medical appointments, to go out with friends and family, to commute to work and to get to the shops.”

“We have got lots of information about the service on our website including a detailed map of the new zone, fares and frequently asked questions.”
