Liverpool now 'seriously considering' plan involving Luis Diaz and PSG this summer - journalist

Liverpool are set to face an uncertain summer where a number of key players are concerned.

With Jurgen Klopp leaving, doubt has been cast over the futures of one or two of the manager’s starting XI.

The worry that Mohamed Salah might leave is not new, of course. Salah had been subject to interest from Saudi Arabia long before we knew Klopp would head for the exit this summer.

Aside from the Egyptian though, the manager’s imminent departure could also reportedly spell trouble for Virgil van Dijk’s long-term stay at Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold is another who has just one year left on his contract and is reportedly attracting interest from Real Madrid.

Finally, recent rumblings in the press have suggested that Luis Diaz could also be on the move. And now, with ‘real’ interest from PSG, Liverpool have seemingly decided what to do.

What have Liverpool decided over Luis Diaz

There are some good arguments as to why Liverpool should actually consider selling Diaz this summer. The 27-year-old has had a bit of a mixed season.

Coming off the back of a serious knee issue in 2023/24, Lucho took a little while to get going. However, over recent weeks we’ve started to see the effective side of Diaz again. He’s been one of Liverpool’s star performers of late.

And according to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra on X, that’s the way the Reds see it, too.

Sierra claims that Liverpool are instead looking to hand Diaz a new contract at Anfield, in the hope of warding off interest from the likes of PSG.

“Liverpool seriously considers making a renewal offer this summer with a salary improvement to Luis Diaz (27) in accordance with his importance in the team,” says the reporter.

“In this way they hope to protect him and remove the interest of teams economically strong like PSG.”

Should Liverpool renew Luis Diaz’s contract

We don’t like to be cynical when it comes to football. There is too much of that about and too many genuine reasons to fall out of love with the game.

But, sometimes, you can’t help but feel you’re being played. And in the case of this ‘interest’ in Diaz, we’d perhaps suggest that it may be coming from the player’s agent.

Diaz still has three years to go on his Liverpool contract. There shouldn’t be any kind of rush to get him a new one. The Reds are certainly under no pressure to sell.

However, get him an extension and all of a sudden the interest from PSG goes away? We’re not sure that completely adds up. If the club feel Diaz deserves a new deal, then you’d imagine they’d work on one. PSG shouldn’t have anything to do with it.
