'Needs to up his game': Graham Roberts fuming over 27-year-old Tottenham player's display today

Tottenham Hotspur delivered arguably the worst display of their season in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off at Newcastle United.

Spurs went into the game hoping to tighten their grip on fourth place following their solid win over Nottingham Forest last time out.

Instead, Tottenham lost so badly that they slipped out of the top four on goal difference without Aston Villa kicking a ball.

Spurs conceded their first in the 30th minute as Alexander Isak latched on to Anthony Gordon’s pass, cut inside and fired past Guglielmo Vicario into the low corner of the net.

Newcastle made it two just two minutes later as Gordon went from provider to scorer, leaving the usually reliable Micky van de Ven in his wake before finishing emphatically.

The in-form Isak then grabbed his second not long after the break, racing onto Bruno Guimaraes’ long pass and making no mistake with his finish.

With Tottenham down and out, there was time for Newcastle to get a fourth, Fabian Schar heading in from Gordon’s corner three minutes from time.

Spurs were dismal on the day, with far too many of their players struggling to cope.

Yves Bissouma was one of those who was particularly below-par, looking off the pace before being hooked on 57 minutes.

What has Graham Roberts said about Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma?

Tottenham legend Graham Roberts commented on the 27-year-old during the match, saying he “needs to up his game”. Writing on X, he also slated the Spurs centre-backs.

Although Bissouma made an important clearance near the Spurs goal-line from a corner early on, and put in a busier shift than Rodrigo Bentancur, it still wasn’t a good display by any means.

Postecoglou has a lot of work to do, and considering who Tottenham are up against in their next three games, he’ll certainly be busy.

Spurs are next in action on Sunday 28 April, when they host Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham then play away at Chelsea on Thursday 2 May and at Liverpool three days later.
