Six ground duels won today, five clearances: Newcastle have another superb youngster besides Anthony Gordon

Newcastle United are now well and truly back in form, securing their third win in four games with a 4-0 hammering of Tottenham Hotspur.

A combination of injuries and fatigue due to workload has meant that Eddie Howe’s Magpies haven’t quite hit last season’s heights.

However, Newcastle will now surely fancy their chances of making a late charge for a Europa League berth after hammering Spurs.

The Magpies opened the scoring on 30 minutes through Alexander Isak, who latched on to Anthony Gordon’s pass, cut inside and fired low into the Tottenham net.

Gordon then went from provider to scorer for Newcastle’s second just two minutes later, and Isak got the Magpies’ third just six minutes into the second half.

Fabian Schar got the cherry on top, heading home in the 87th minute following a Gordon corner.

While Gordon and Isak stood out for Newcastle on the day, Elliot Anderson also deserves praise for another superb display.

How did Elliot Anderson fare for Newcastle against Tottenham?

Chronicle Live gave the 21-year-old a 9 out of 10 rating and wrote: ‘An almost complete midfield performance as he battled, blocked and cleared. Looks like a player way above his years.’

Meanwhile, the Shields Gazette went with 8 out of 10, writing: ‘Did a lot of good work off the ball and provided real steel to Newcastle’s left side.

‘Saw plenty of the ball and got into some good areas and was unfortunate not to score.’

As per Sofascore, Anderson won six ground duels and four aerial duels, and weighed in with five clearances, one interception and one tackle.

The Newcastle academy graduate continues to shine, and it’s great to see. Alongside the likes of Gordon and Lewis Miley, he’s another top youngster in the Magpies ranks.
