Manuel Akanji sends seven-word message to Josko Gvardiol after Man City's 5-1 victory against Luton

Manuel Akanji sent a brief message to Josko Gvardiol after he scored for Manchester City in his side’s 5-1 win against Luton Town.

The pair started in City’s back four in the contest against Rob Edwards’ side on Saturday.

Manuel Akanji was paired in central defence alongside Ruben Dias, where he played as a left-sided centre-back against Luton.

Josko Gvardiol, on the other hand, was deployed as a left-back once again, with Nathan Ake returning to the bench from his injury.

Gvardiol stole the headlines with his first Premier League goal in a Manchester City shirt.

A few days before, the Sky Blues’ number 24 stunned observers with the type of goal against Real Madrid one rarely sees from a centre-half, especially in a game of the magnitude of a Champions League quarter-final.

Once again, the Croatian international showcased why his shooting is lethal, thundering the ball into the top corner with his weaker right foot against Luton.

Akanji sends seven-word message to Gvardiol after City beat Luton

Jeremy Doku played Josko Gvardiol a square pass, who cut inside with his right foot from outside the box as the ball proceeded to ripple the net.

The 22-year-old scored two goals in his last two games for the treble-winners and in style.

A statistic not many would have expected Gvardiol to accumulate after he signed for City, even if he went on to prove that he is capable of causing problems going forward.

Whether Josko Gvardiol becomes a regular contributor with goals is a question and the likely answer is no, as which centre-back really is.

However, it was impressive from the youngster to say the very least to produce such a moment of magic against Rob Edwards’ side.

After Manchester City got the all-important three points against Luton Town, Manuel Akanji commented on a post-match Instagram post shared by Josko Gvardiol.

“If you don’t shoot, you don’t score”, he commented, followed by a laughing emoji.

Gvardiol has been added to City’s brilliant strikers of the ball

Much like Manuel Akanji, many would have been impressed by how confident Josko Gvardiol was to take such a shot from outside the box for Manchester City against Luton.

Gvardiol seemingly backed himself to test Kaminski and he ended up scoring.

Notably, the former RB Leipzig defender is another one of the team’s brilliant strikers of the ball.

When the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Rodri and Julian Alvarez hit a ball, it stays hit.

The same can be said for Josko Gvardiol now, who could have bagged a goal in the first half as well.
