Manchester United reportedly could stun West Ham this summer by signing 28-yo for £40 million

A new Ivan Toney claim has been made, with West Ham and Manchester United hot on his tail ahead of the summer transfer window.

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer, with talk suggesting that he’d be keen on joining us as well.

Toney has been a longstanding target for West Ham in fact. Incredibly, the Hammers rejected the chance to sign him from Peterborough in 2020 for just £10 million.

David Sullivan counts that decision among the worst he has made during his time in football.

So now it seems like the Hammers owner could try to atone for that error. However, Manchester United could be set to throw a spanner in the works.

David Moyes has a terrible track record of signing strikers doesn’t he! Especially during his time at the London Stadium…

If the Scot manages to get his hands on Toney though, all of that would change overnight.

He is one of the very best strikers in the Premier League, and his playing style would suit us to an absolute tee.

Ivan Toney career statistics

His numbers with Brentford obviously stand out there, and he has reached en entirely new level since joining the west London outfit.

Toney’s time with the Bees may well be coming to an end though, and I’d absolutely love him at West Ham.

Could a big problem be lying in wait for us though?

Big Ivan Toney to West Ham twist

Bees manager Thomas Frank has admitted Toney will be sold this summer, and all roads point to a move to East London for the forward…or do they?

The Hammers face a big problem in the race for the former Peterborough man’s signature this summer it seems.

The Sunday People (print edition April 14th, page 53) claim that Man United are ‘shock contenders’ to sign the 28-year-old Brentford hitman in the summer transfer window.

It is claimed that the Bees could sell Toney for as little as £40 million, and for no more than £50 million this summer.

In this day and age, £40 million for someone with Toney’s quality would represent an incredibly good deal in my view.

The striker gives every single centre-back pairing he plays against a really hard game. The 28-year-old would be absolutely perfect for us, and definitely would take us to another level entirely.

However, if Manchester United do in fact come in for Ivan Toney this summer, West Ham could well face some real disappointment. It would be such a shame to lose out on him to them.
