‘Why?’: Gabriel Agbonlahor thinks Ange Postecoglou ‘upset’ £22m Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a setback in their quest to finish fourth in the Premier League on Saturday when they lost to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

Spurs were hammered 4-0 by Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

It was a hugely disappointing display from Tottenham Hotspur, who are now fifth in the league table.

Aston Villa are fourth on goals scored. Unai Emery’s side will lock horns with Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven was at fault for the first two goals. Some pundits have also blamed Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou for continuing to play with a high defensive line.

Another Tottenham player who struggled against Newcastle was Son Heung-min, who did not get to complete the match.

Son started the match as the lone striker upfront in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Tottenham boss Postecoglou brought off the £22 million (The Guardian) South Korea international forward on 58 minutes.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor does not think that it was a good idea. The talkSPORT pundit thinks that Son will be upset with Postecoglou.

Ange Postecoglou criticised over Son Heung-min decision

Agbonlahor said about Son coming off on talkSPORT (5:37 pm, April 13, 2024): “Spurs don’t play now for two weeks. Why is he bringing Son off after 59 minutes, the captain?

“I know he wasn’t at his best, but Son will get upset at that. He is the sort of player that won’t be happy.”

No need to worry about Son Heung-min

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur have nothing to worry about Son Heung-min.

I do not think that Son will be upset that he was taken off in the second half against Newcastle United.

Getting substituted is part and parcel of the game. And Son will know that he was not at his best against Newcastle.

I think that Son will not dwell on his substitution for even a minute. He is a very mature player and is also the Spurs captain.

The 31-year-old forward has scored 15 goals and given nine assists in 29 Premier League matches for Tottenham this season.
