Lemina gives Cunha the highest compliment after goal for Wolves at Forest, but Sarabia may not agree

Wolves fans were treated to a truly special moment yesterday, as Matheus Cunha scored twice on his first start returning from injury against Nottingham Forest.

Gary O’Neil‘s side took a point on the road at the City Ground, against a Forest side battling to stay in the Premier League.

Matheus Cunha was at the double for Wolves, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Danilo scoring for the hosts. Gibbs-White provoked the Wolves fans once again, scoring and then celebrating right in front of them. Cunha then mimicked his celebration after scoring his second goal.

The best moment of the game was undoubtedly the first goal by Cunha.

The Brazilian’s solo effort was described as ‘outstanding’ by pundit Clinton Morrison – and now Mario Lemina has given it even higher praise…

Wolves fans had been waiting for Cunha’s return to the team, because he had been utterly brilliant prior to the ‘significant’ hamstring injury he sustained.

Without him, Wolves have struggled in the final third, with youngsters Leon Chiwome and Nathan Fraser obviously still both really raw.

But he was back starting yesterday and in the 40th minute, he produced a moment of serious quality.

Jose Sa threw the ball out to Cunha on the left wing. The Brazilian was still way inside his own ha;f, but carried the ball all the way up the left side of the penalty area.

Once there, he had two defenders on him but turned inside them both and then fired an unstoppable shot into the far corner. He had no right to score, but Wolves fans know that Cunha is capable of magic.

It was a stunning finish and after the game, Wolves uploaded a clip of the goal to their official Instagram page.

Hundreds commented, including Mario Lemina who gave it the highest possible compliment. He wrote: “Goal of the season 🔥”

Wolves’ Goal of the Season award will be a close-run thing

If we are talking about just Wolves goals this season, many fans will agree with Lemina – but one man who may not is Pablo Sarabia.

The Spaniard scored an outrageous goal against Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux earlier this season, which effectively kickstarted his campaign.

The technique from the Spaniard was out of this world, and it would take a special goal to beat it to the Wolves Goal of the Season award, which was won by Matheus Nunes last year after his volley against Chelsea.

They were both very difficult to execute in different ways.

Given how much Cunha had to do, there is a case for it being the better goal. However, Sarabia’s probably had more importance as it was a late equaliser, and paved the way for Wolves to actually win the game.
