Kyogo Furuhashi's 'unusual' Ibrox experience during Celtic draw with Rangers

The Glasgow Derby game at Ibrox will be remembered for a number of reasons by the Celtic fans and our players.

The result, Celtic’s first-half performance, the refereeing and Fabio Silva’s diving are to name but a few. The lack of away fans also is a contributary factor in how these games pan out but it was none of those things that gave Kyogo Furuhashi an experience he has never had before in his footballing career.

The Japanese striker has played in 12 derbies and won six, drew three and lost three. Kyogo has also scored seven times against Rangers as he becomes a real thorn in the Ibrox club’s side. [Transfermarkt]

Kyogo loved very ‘unusual’ Rangers game

As I said before, the Japanese striker has enjoyed enormous success against the Ibrox side but last Sunday, Kyogo admitted he experienced a career first in the 3-3 draw.

Kyogo said [The Sunday Post print edition page 66], “It was an exciting match and, I think an entertaining one for everyone to watch.

“It was the first time I have ever experienced a match like that.

“As I mentioned, it was very exciting because of everything that happened on the pitch.

“And, of course, that made it a very entertaining one for supporters, for anyone who watched it really.

“It is unusual for a derby to deliver that type of match. For me, that is what made it special.

“From our perspective, it was a good game because we performed well in it. We played the kind of football that we wanted to play and did so to a high level.”

After today’s Rangers result against Ross County, Celtic have a huge advantage not only heading into the final five games but also the last Glasgow Derby of the season.

And if Kyogo thought what he experienced at Ibrox was unusual last Sunday, just wait till Rangers head to Celtic Park next month.
