‘It’s outrageous’: BBC pundit left stunned by how good £26m Aston Villa player was at the Emirates

BBC pundit Danny Gabbidon lauded one Aston Villa player after a surprise win at the Emirates Stadium today.

Aston Villa provided a shock at Arsenal by putting in their best away performance of the season so far.

Despite being under pressure for large periods in the first half, the Villains came closest to opening the scoring through Ollie Watkins.

The Englishman saw an effort come back off the post and Villa built on a positive end to the opening period.

Indeed, Unai Emery’s side dominated the game in the second half and deservedly grabbed two goals in the final 10 minutes.

It was Leon Bailey who opened the scoring in the 84th minute and Watkins doubled Villa’s lead just two minutes later.

Despite their brilliance in the final third, Emery will be delighted with his side’s defensive display as they limited an in-form Arsenal side in front of goal.

And Diego Carlos put in arguably his best display in a Villa shirt since his £26 million switch from Sevilla back in 2022.

Carlos impresses as Aston Villa pull off surprise win at Arsenal

It was a brilliant team performance from Villa today and it puts them in a commanding position in the race for a top-four finish.

Of course, Tottenham also slipped up yesterday with a 4-0 defeat at St James’ Park.

As for Carlos, the 31-year-old has impressed this season after a difficult debut campaign at Villa Park.

The Brazilian was ruled out for 213 days with an ACL injury but he has bounced back brilliantly following a significant setback at the start of his Villa career.

Carlos has racked up 32 appearances in all competitions and is now proving to be a key part of Emery’s side.
