‘He's actually surprised me’: What Adam Idah has done since joining Celtic that’s ‘impressed’ Pat Bonner

Adam Idah was on the scoresheet once again in Celtic’s 3-0 win over St Mirren on Saturday afternoon.

In a game of two halves, Celtic stuttered in a Parkhead first-half that saw Brendan Rodgers‘ side remarkably not record a single shot on target.

But in a second-half rally, Celtic came out of the traps quickly and early goals from Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi calmed the nerves before Idah put the game to bed with the Hoops’ third, his seventh of the season, as Rodgers put daylight between him and Philippe Clement’s Rangers.

But it was what Adam Idah has done since his Parkhead arrival in January that has really surprised Pat Bonner.

The former Celtic hero was commentating on the win over St Mirren and after Idah found the back of the net, Bonner shared the difference he has seen now compared to watching him as a youngster competing for an international place with the Republic of Ireland.

Bonner said [BBC Radio Scotland], “He started and he finished it Adam Idah. Used this strength to beat him [Gogic] and then it was a 4v2 that who was gonna put the ball, the back of the net.

“But that could be a vital goal come the end of the season, who knows?

“I’ve been impressed with him since he’s come in. He’s actually surprised me a little bit because I watched him as a young man trying to break into an Irish team at international level.

“I thought he came in a bit too early, to be honest. But he’s got experience, he built it up, but the move here to Celtic, he’s getting opportunities, that’s the difference here.

“And maybe with the Irish team, he doesn’t get as many opportunities. You’ve got to lead the line much much differently.

“But he’s shown that given the opportunity and the chances he will take them and it’s been a good move in his career.”

There has now been a scramble by the Celtic fans who are now urging the club to make Idah’s Parkhead move permanent.

Big goals against Hibs, Motherwell, Rangers and now St Mirren have made the on-loan Norwich striker the hottest property at Celtic Park behind Reo Hatate and the supporters will be hoping now that the club splash the cash to bring the Irishman to Paradise permanently.
