talkSPORT pundit says £34m Liverpool player has really ‘gone off the boil’ recently

One Liverpool player who was signed for £34m has really come under fire recently over his last few performances.

Things are not easy at Liverpool at the moment. For the first time this season, the Reds have lost two consecutive games at Anfield.

Considering Liverpool were fighting on all four fronts less than a month ago, these kinds of results are unprecedented.

In the space of a few days, Liverpool have gone from hoping to win both the Europa League and the Premier League to now needing a miracle in both to achieve success.

It’s not the fairy tale ending to Jurgen Klopp’s reign many will have hoped for. The reality is that Liverpool’s players need to reflect on their performances.

They have let Klopp down in the last few weeks, and the criticism they have received is completely warranted.

What Andy Townsend said about Mohamed Salah on talkSPORT

One player whose performances have really dropped off recently is Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian was in the form of his life at the start of the season.

However, since returning from an injury he suffered at the African Cup of Nations, he hasn’t quite been the same player.

It feels like he isn’t quite as sharp, and has struggled to make the same kind of impact that he had made before his injury.

This has not gone unnoticed. On talkSPORT this morning commentator and former Premier League footballer, Andy Townsend shelled out criticism for Salah and his performances lately.

“Salah has gone off the boil lately,” Townsend said.

“Nobody is knocking him and what he has done but right now at the moment Mo Salah is not playing at his very best.”

Was Salah really that bad against Palace? The numbers tell a different story

Salah came under a lot of scrutiny yesterday, in particular. While the Egyptian scuffed a few of his efforts at goal, this wasn’t an entirely bad performance from him.

The £34m man may not have scored but he created the most chances in the game (5) as per Fotmob, and also drew the joint most fouls (2) on the pitch.

What was perhaps underwhelming is that Liverpool just couldn’t really get him involved as much as they would have liked. In total Salah had the least touches (46) of any outfield player who played 90 minutes in the game.
