'Does a fantastic job': Mauricio Pochettino says 31-year-old is really helping the young Chelsea players

Chelsea have a really young squad, which is one reason why they are perhaps struggling so much this season.

The Blues are nowhere near the Champions League spots and could also miss out on Europa League qualification.

According to Mauricio Pochettino, though, there is one more experienced player in his squad who is really trying to help out the young talent at Stamford Bridge.

One man that has not needed any support this season is Cole Palmer. The 21-year-old has been in incredible form since arriving at Chelsea from Manchester City last term, scoring 19 goals in 37 appearances.

Tony Cascarino recently claimed that Palmer plays with a real arrogance.

Palmer is one youngster at Chelsea, but there are also the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Malo Gusto.

Out of those above names, Mudryk is the oldest at 23 years of age.

It is clear to see, then, that Chelsea do have quite a young squad. The more experienced Marcus Bettinelli, though, is trying to do his part.

On Chelsea’s recent recruitment and the 31-year-old, Pochettino told the Evening Standard: “We can keep going in the same way with the policy [to sign young players]. But in the squad, we have Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Bettinelli. Maybe Marcus isn’t playing but he does a fantastic job helping the young guys.

“We have experienced players in the squad. It is not going against the project to have some players who are helping the young guys to perform, to be professional, and to understand what it means to be in the Premier League and to be at Chelsea.”

Chelsea need to sign more experienced players

When the transfer window opens in the summer, Chelsea need to add more seasoned pros to their squad to balance things out a bit.

There is just not enough experience at Stamford Bridge at the minute, and you can see that from the way Pochettino’s team constantly throw away leads.

They should have beaten Sheffield United after going in front against them twice, for example.
