"Absolute bottle job" - Heart and Hand in four word Rangers decimation

Social media wasn’t the place to be after Rangers disastrous defeat in Dingwall to Ross County but there were still a few salient points being made by fans.

The usual suspects were being hung out to dry; John Lundstram, Connor Goldson and James Tavernier all at the top of the list for those being criticised.

In fairness, they deserved it because, at times like these, the leadership group should be driving us to success not dragging Rangers to defeat against Ross County from a one goal lead.

Rangers bottle jobs resurface against Ross County

Some of the recent goals that Rangers have conceded (seven in three games) have come down the right-hand side of the defence.

You would think that, after six years, that Tavernier and Goldson would have some sort of understanding, instead, they seem to be getting worse.

As for John Lundstram.

He’s gone from being our best outfield player under Gers boss Philippe Clement to someone who has been a root cause to some of our problems.

Writing on X, Heart and Hand’s David Edgar summed it up nicely:

“Embarrassing. Absolute bottle job.”

It’s hard to lay the blame of the defeat purely on the squad lacking bottle.

I’ve never been a fan of simply saying a team “didn’t want it”.

Defeats are usually a combination of a number of factors.

Was it a bottle job?

Personally, I don’t think it was.

The chance Cyriel Dessers missed at 1-0 changes the game.

That’s not bottle.

That’s a mark of consistency.

A striker who has consistently missed that sort of chance throughout the season.

Tavernier cut a frustrated figure in his post match interview and, for all that we have heard it before, he made some salient points.

“We always look at it game by game and obviously, this game is really disappointing. We’ve got to put it behind us now, we’ll look back on it and show how we can improve.

“Today’s obviously really disappointing. It was the performance levels that were really poor and we’ve got to hold our hands up as a team and really give a performance that we all put in during the week and give the fans a performance but it wasn’t there today.”

The usual suspects are in last chance saloon

The captain is right, even last week at Ibrox the team displayed a mentality that has long since been missing.

You could argue that going 2-0 down was a sign of weakness but, conversely, scoring three goals in the second half shows what they are capable of.

Accusations have been thrown at all three of the players named, but since Philippe Clement came to the club, they have had a lot more good days than bad.

Even during our legendary 9-in-a-row dominance, legends like Richard Gough or Ally McCoist had bad games.

The difference, is that they also won multiple trophies.

In 18 attempts domestically, Goldson and Tavernier have three each.

Hardly Rangers standard.

There is no bigger test than going to Parkhead with a title a stake and needing a win.

For some, this is the last chance saloon.

A bar, these three have been regulars in.
