Southwell U3A offers opportunity for retirees to gain new interests

A charity is offering a chance for retirees to continue their hobbies or pick up new interests.

On the first Tuesday of every month, Southwell U3A holds its general meeting, from 10am to 12pm at Southwell Leisure Centre.

It is an opportunity for people no longer in full-time employment to chat to other members, find out more about interest groups and social events, and hear a presentation from an interesting speaker.

Southwell U3A's cycling for fun group.

For people with time on their hands, or a need for extra fulfilment, the town’s U3A encourages pleasurable, sociable and active learning in keeping with its national motto ‘Learn, Laugh, Live’.

Interest groups include topics from art to table tennis, astronomy to woodwork, bird watching to cycling, badminton to ukulele and most things in between.

Most activities take place during the day, but some of the 80 groups operate in the evenings, and are all run by fellow members who want to share their passions or areas of expertise.

They are an opportunity to make some new friends from over 800 members from Southwell and the surrounding areas.

Anyone interested in joining can visit the group’s website or attend the general meeting, where volunteers will be on hand to offer advice and information.
