'Secret' iPhone feature let's you easily sign online documents for free, with no scanning or printing

In the age of digital communication, needing to sign important documents online has become increasingly common but it’s not necessarily the easiest process.

However, iPhone users have access to a feature that makes this procedure a whole lot easier and gets rid of the need to print documents out, physically sign them and then scan them back onto your computer.

iPhone feature lets you easily sign online documents

Technology content creator known online as Matty McTech (who goes by the username @SetupSpawn) has posted a video demonstrating the helpful feature to Instagram.

“Did you know if you have a document or photo you need to sign, you can actually open it up on your iPhone,” Matty explains to his 2.1 million Instagram followers, before demonstrating how to add the all-important signature.

After opening up an image of the document you want to sign in the Photos app on your iPhone, the first step is to hit the ‘Edit’ button in the top right corner of the screen, he explains.

Next, click the ‘Markup’ button (the image of a pen nib) which also sits in the top right of the screen.

Then, tap on the plus (+) symbol in the bottom right corner, this will bring up several options including ‘Add Signature.’

“Now you can sign your name and you’ll be able to drag that signature wherever you want,” explains Matty as he places his signature on a fake ‘Mafia Application Form’ which he uses as a tongue-in-cheek example.

Matty’s tip also works if you need to add standard text to a document as well.

In the Markup menu, if you hit the plus button, you’ll get the option to ‘Add Text’ which you can also drag to any position you need.

Commenters react to helpful hack

Despite the fact that this iPhone feature has been around for a long while, it’s one that many have not seen before, as shown by several thankful comments from Matty’s followers.

One Instagram user simply said: “Thanks for this tutorial!”

A second added: “Thanks I was trying to find the way to sign docs without spending much time with scanning and signing or looking for a specific software.”

“Microsoft Office mobile app can do it all for those who don’t have an iPhone,” commented a third.

A fourth commenter warned that for certain documents, this method may not be accepted: “I knew this, tried it on my mortgage and they said, ‘Please use a non-digital pen.’”

And finally, this commenter noted the humorous fake application Matty used for his video: “The fact that no one is asking about the application he’s filling out 🤣🤣”
