'Very unusual': Sam Allardyce says Sean Dyche now has a problem to fix at Everton which he never did

Everton’s managerial failures are but one of a never-ending list that has plunged the club into such financial uncertainty.

However, the ever-changing styles of each appointment certainly played a huge role in that regression, with huge funds frittered away with each passing year on players who would then not fit into the system of the next head coach.

It was a thankless, thoughtless and frankly useless process which has only served to set the Toffees back, and in the end, it all traces back to Farhad Moshiri.

And whilst he may be on his way out, as Sam Allardyce noted, the situation he has handed to Sean Dyche has remained abysmal.

Sam Allardyce on Everton’s managerial situation

Speaking live on talkSPORT (15/04, 9:40 am) earlier today, the former Everton, Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United manager was rather magnanimous when speaking about the Toffees.

Although the manner of his exit in 2018 naturally left a sour taste in the mouth, as he guided his side to eighth before being dismissed for style issues, the irony of the situation now is that Goodison Park simply does not care about the style anymore so long as it results in survival.

That’s certainly lucky for Dyche, who has thrown up a few abhorrent performances during his spell in charge.

However, Allardyce did admit that the current Everton boss is still contending with an issue that he didn’t fix which hasn’t made his time in charge any easier.

He noted, speaking to Jeff Stelling: ‘Very unusual, Jeff, because before me and during my time there it was the home record that kept them where they were. The away record, I think when I got there my second game was Newcastle away, we won 1-0 and that was the first win in a calendar year away from home for Everton.

‘So obviously it’s a culture change, the players have changed an awful lot since then, it seems to turn around. Everton used to be a force at home that even if you didn’t play well, they would help to get behind you to try and get them over the line.

’On other occasions they’d show their disapproval on how you were playing, so it’s always been a bit of a fortress, Everton, but obviously clearly not at the moment.

‘So it’s something Sean has to sort out, because relying on a away form is not going to be the answer at all.’

Sean Dyche has a big problem to fix

The troubled home form has plagued Everton’s entire season, with Goodison Park far from the fortress it once was.

Previously, there was not a club in the country that would have relished a trip there, likely well aware that, win or lose, they would have to fight for anything and everything.

Well, such a fear factor has since evaporated, and instead been replaced by a timid, nervous stadium filled with fans who have been consistently driven into the ground by matters outside of their control.

Not only that, but the playing staff seems to have lost that edge too, with Dyche’s desperate efforts to regain it leading to huge inconsistencies in their results.

It is impossible to place exactly how such a problem is fixed, but with some key home matches against relegation rivals on the horizon, it needs sorting now.
