Rio Ferdinand has named the Newcastle United player who has impressed him with his aggression and bravery.
Newcastle United are not going to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, but Eddie Howe’s side are certainly trying to end the campaign on a high note.
The Magpies hammered Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park in the league this past weekend.
Newcastle have won three of their last four Premier League games and have lost one of their past five league matches.
While Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon grabbed the headlines after the win against Tottenham because of what they did in attack, there was a Newcastle defender who impressed Rio Ferdinand hugely.
The former Manchester United defender has noted how good Fabian Schar was during the match at St. James’ Park.
The TNT Sports pundit has praised the 32-year-old Switzerland international centre-back for his aggression and bravery on the pitch. He scored as well.

Ferdinand said about Schar on TNT Sports 1 (2:54 pm, April 13, 2024): “He has been huge. You look at him and you think, ‘Is he quick enough?’
“He is brave. I am talking brave with the ball and brave in his position as well. He is aggressive, he is on the front foot, he is a calming influence in the way that he plays as well that I see flow in the team through him. He has grown in stature here.”
Fabian Schar is an underrated Newcastle United star
In my opinion, Fabian Schar has been a bargain signing for Newcastle United and has been a valuable player in the squad over the years.
Newcastle signed the Schar from Deportivo La Coruna for just £3 million (Sky Sports) in the summer of 2018. Rafael Benitez was then in charge of the Magpies.
Schar has always had to fight for his place in the Newcastle starting lineup and has never really been guaranteed a place in the team, but he has been very valuable and has done a good job whenever he has played.
The defender has scored four goals and given one assist in 32 Premier League matches for Newcastle this season.
