Rangers-linked player with 142 recoveries left “devastated”; Ibrox star sends public support

Rangers fans have always rued the club’s failure to sign Lewis Ferguson before he moved to Bologna.

The former Aberdeen midfielder has blue blood in his veins and a few years back it seemed destined that we’d see the box-to-box Scotland international in a blue jersey.

After all, the son of ex-Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson and nephew of treble-winning captain Barry, there is only one place many felt Lewis would eventually wind up.

But after moving to Italy, Lewis Ferguson has found a footballing home which has him on the cusp of Serie A Champions League qualification as the captain of Bologna.

Beyond that, the likes of Juventus – also linked to Bologna manager Thiago Motta – and Napoli have been mentioned as suitors to the tune of £22m.

But right as the 24-year-old looks set to break into the elite level, Lewis Ferguson has just suffered a devastating cruciate ligament injury.

Lewis Ferguson “devastated” by injury

In what is a bitter blow to the midfielder, Lewis Ferguson will undergo knee surgery after sustaining the injury over the weekend.

Having went down following a tackle about an hour into the 0-0 draw with Monza, the Bologna skipper took to Instagram after the game.

As a result of surgery, the Scotland international will miss this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany whilst that talk of a money spinning move to Italy’s biggest clubs will be shelved.

It really is a devastating moment for Lewis Ferguson, but if he’s anything like his dad and uncle, then we’ll see him back rubbing shoulders with the best before too long.

Taking to Instagram, the boyhood Rangers fan shared his frustration:

Rangers star Ryan Jack, who is an international teammate who knows all about injury issues, also commented on the post:

“@ryanjack_8 “Speedy recovery mate”

Boyhood bluenose would’ve “walked” to Rangers

Needless to say, everyone at Rangers News wishes Lewis Ferguson a speedy recovery from the injury.

Whilst the midfielder never made the move to Rangers, everyone at Ibrox and in Scotland is eager to see Lewis achieve his ambitions in the game and it’s a sore one for the country’s footballing community to take.

The injury has obviously come at a seriously inopportune moment for everyone, and Lewis Ferguson has a long but character building road ahead to get back fit and firing.

With uncle Barry claiming that Lewis Ferguson would’ve “walked” to Rangers, it shows that the midfielder still holds a big bond with the club.

As a result, many Rangers fans will be hoping that no matter how the player’s career goes, one day he winds up at Ibrox.
