Wisbech man David Newton charged with murder of 86-year-old Una Crown 11 years after she died

Detectives have charged a man with the murder of pensioner Una Crown 11 years ago.

David Newton, 69, has been charged with the 86-year-old's murder which took place at her home on Magazine Close in Wisbech in 2013.

Newton, also of Magazine Close, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Detectives are re-appealing for help to solve the murder of pensioner Una Crown 11 years on.

Mrs Crown’s body was discovered on Sunday, January 13 2013, she was stabbed numerous times and her body was set on fire.

Newton was arrested yesterday and was held in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough.

Her death was initially treated as unexplained, but after a post-mortem examination, it was concluded that Mrs Crown died from stab wounds to her neck and her chest.

She had not been seen alive since Friday, January 11, but had spoken to a friend over the phone at about 5pm on the Saturday, the day before she was discovered by police.

Last year -10 years since Mrs Crown’s murder \- police offered a £20,000 Crimestoppers reward for information which appeared on national television.

The last sighting of Una was on a shopping trip.
Una Crown was killed in her bungalow home in Magazine Lane.

She was last seen on CCTV coming out of a supermarket.
