Report: £15m Newcastle player is now at risk of being sold, he's barely played this season

Newcastle United know they need to sell some players this summer, but it remains unclear who will depart St James’ Park.

The one man who Toon fans do not want to leave is Bruno Guimaraes. The 26-year-old has a £100million release clause, and the hope is that he remains a Newcastle United player for at least one more year.

There have also been fears surrounding Alexander Isak, with the Swedish striker recently proving that he is an elite goalscorer. He has now scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, and is someone who should be competing in the Champions League year after year.

That is where Newcastle want to be, and to get there they need to keep their top stars.

Newcastle need to sell some fringe players

But while players like Bruno and Isak will be off limits, the Magpies do have some players who they can possibly afford to move on.

One of those is Miguel Almiron, and it was recently reported that the 30-year-old is likely to be sold this summer. He was linked with a move away in January, and suddenly a Tyneside departure feels inevitable.

There have also been rumours about Callum Wilson leaving, and now the Telegraph have provided a fresh name whose Toon career could be coming to an end.

£15m player could leave Newcastle soon

The Telegraph have named five players who have ‘uncertain’ futures at St James’ Park, one of which is Matt Targett.

The report suggests that the £15million man could be sold this summer – possibly before the end of June, which is when Premier League clubs must submit their accounts to show they are complying with profit and sustainability rules.

It is not a major shock to see Targett listed as a possible departure. He is named alongside Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff and Martin Dubravka.

Interestingly, the Telegraph also suggest that Yankuba Minteh could be sold. The 19-year-old is yet to make his Toon debut, having joined the club last year before immediately being loaned out to Feyenoord, where he is excelling.

Matt Targett has endured a tough season

While Minteh is thriving on loan at Feyenoord, Targett has spent most of the season at Newcastle injured.

The left-back has endured a torrid campaign, with Targett starting just three games in all competitions. The 28-year-old has been limited to just seven appearances, and has not played a single minute since sustaining a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester United.

Targett did briefly return to fitness, and was on the bench for the recent defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City. However, he is now out of action with an Achilles problem, and is currently wearing a protective boot.

Ever since joining Newcastle permanently, it has been a nightmare for Targett. He was outstanding during his loan spell, but it has been a different story ever since that permanent move from Aston Villa.

First-team minutes have been hard to come by, having lost his place in the side to Dan Burn last season. Targett has either been understudy or injured, and it feels like a move away this summer could make sense for all parties.

A transfer exit will be even more pressing if Newcastle sign another left-back, which they are reportedly planning to do.
