Southwell Town Council appealing for information after “mindless criminal damage” at park

A footbridge has been damaged and the wood used to make a bonfire, as a spate of anti-social behaviour continues in a town.

In recent weeks Southwell has suffered damage to park equipment and its market stalls, and the town council has now put out an appeal for information after a bonfire was created on Minster Field.

In a post on Facebook the council asked anyone with information to contact Nottinghamshire Police’s non emergency number 101, or the council on 01636816103.

It branded the incident as “more mindless criminal damage” and confirmed the wooded panels pictured in the partially-burned bonfire are part of the footbridge from Harvey’s Field to Minster Field.

Previous incidents in the town included offensive language and drawings on the market stalls, a smashed light at War Memorial Recreation Ground, and a burnt swing and damaged wooden play structure at Norwood Gardens Park.

The incidents are being investigated by Nottinghamshire Police.
