Wolves now 'hope' to sell £17m player in the summer despite fantastic 21 G/A season - journalist

Wolves apparently ‘hope’ to move one of their players who is currently out on loan on this summer, despite him having a top season out on loan.

Pedro Neto is expected to leave the club with a number of top sides on his tail at the moment, but Wolves could well offload a few more.

There has also been some talk about Joao Gomes and Rayan Ait-Nouri having interest from other clubs, but Neto is the one most expect to move on, given his form this term and the fact he’s been at Molineux long and it’s ‘his time’ to go.

Goncalo Guedes is a player the club will look to move on permanently, after loaning him out to Benfica again and then Villarreal in January.

But Wolves may also look to get Daniel Podence off the books, with journalist Liam Keen dropping an update on the player…

Podence was an important player for Wolves last season, and finished as the club’s joint-top goalscorer in the Premier League with Ruben Neves.

But in the summer, the club wanted to move him on, but suitable permanent offers were not forthcoming.

Podence did not join his teammates for pre-season training while his future was being sorted and in the end, Wolves loaned him back to his former Olympiacos. He signed a new contract with Wolves in the process, with the club protecting his value.

It has been a brilliant stint for him back in Greece, with Podence regularly standing out. He has scored 13 goals and made eight assists in 37 games, helping the team to fourth in the Greek Super League, which is now in its play-off phase. They are just six points off the leaders AEK Athens with a game in hand.

Podence has also helped the team to a Europa Conference League quarter-final. They are 3-2 up against Fenerbahce after the first leg.

Despite Podence’s brilliant season, Wolves aren’t looking to bring him back into the fold.

Keen said (via Shots TV): “13 goals, eight assists in all competitions, so he’s done really well. And that’s obviously during a Europa campaign as well so, it’s good for Wolves that he’s done well.

“He had one year left last summer, (Wolves) couldn’t get rid of him. There were other clubs interested, but they couldn’t get rid of him.

“The English window closes and eventually they do get rid of him with the Greek window still being open. He signs a one-year extension with a year option as well, as club option. So they’ve been able to protect their investment a little bit more.

“They’ll obviously hope to get some money for him. They’re not going to get anywhere near the money they invested for him considering the contract length he’s on.”

Podence’s time to go

There have been conflicting reports about whether Olympiacos hold an option to buy clause over Podence, but that was not mentioned by Keen as he spoke about the player’s future.

So seemingly, Wolves and Olympiacos may be negotiating again over the player this summer, and there doesn’t appear to be an intention to bring him back into the fold.

It very much sounds as though Podence – who signed for Wolves for around £17 million – will not play for the club again. Earlier this year, he spoke of his happiness about playing for Olympiacos, and he has obviously enjoyed a fantastic season.

Even though the Greek Super League doesn’t come close to the standard of the Premier League, 21 goal contributions is still impressive going.

It’ll be interesting to see what his price will be if he does indeed move on permanently this summer.
