'One definitely to keep an eye on': O'Neil could call on electric £3m gem for Wolves next season - journalist

Wolves fans have been told that one player currently out on loan could well come back to the club this summer and become a first-team option next season.

Wanderers currently have quite a few players out on loan, and there is a possibility that some of them will be called upon next term.

Fans are hoping to see Fosun back Gary O’Neil in the transfer market, after a frustrating past couple of windows because of financial concerns.

The club will surely be bringing new faces through the door, but there is very chance that some loan players will also be integrated into the squad for next season.

Some of those loanees have been discussed by journalists Liam Keen and Nathan Judah – and it sounds like Chiquinho may well have a good chance of becoming an option for O’Neil…

Chiquinho left Wolves in the summer and initially joined Championship Stoke City.

But the move ended before it had even really begun. It was reported the player and manager Alex Neil didn’t see eye to eye, and Wolves swiftly cancelled the loan.

He was then sent to Farmalicao over in Portugal, and the goal for him has been to play regular football again, after he suffered an ACL injury in the summer of 2022.

And Chiquinho has done that, making 25 appearances across all competitions. He has scored five goals and made three assists.

He recently made headlines for scoring a terrific overhead kick in a 2-2 draw with GD Chaves.

Chiquinho was a player Wolves fans were really excited about towards the end of the 2021/22 season. The star had signed for the club in January 2022 for a fee of around £3 million, and made a few very impressive cameo performances under Bruno Lage. Arguably, he finished the campaign as one of Wolves’ brightest sparks.

Providing an update on Chiquinho’s situation over on Shots TV, journalist Liam Keen said: “The overall feeling in Portugal is that he’s done quite well. He’s a player who’s still finding his feet professionally.

“Wolves signed him for £3 million, and I think the hope is he’ll go on to be an important player at Wolves. But it depends on how the next year or so and how the summer goes.

“This may be the opportunity for Chiquinho. Because Wolves are lacking in attacking options, particularly in out-and-out wingers which he very much is.

“The fact he’s gone to Portugal and played regularly in the top-flight, got a few goals and assists, and has started to build confidence and experience. For me, it feels like the perfect chance now to either go for a loan at a much harder league or come back to Wolves.

“I think there’s a player there Wolves could really look at this summer and considering the lack of options, it could be a really exciting one. But it’s one to definitely keep an eye on in the next few months.”

A big few months coming up for Chiquinho

It sounds as though Chiquinho has caught the eye for Farmalicao, and there’s no doubt people like pathways manager Steve Davis will be all over how he has been progressing, and feeding back to O’Neil.

It would be great to see him return to Wolves and work his way back into the squad.

He was a real livewire when he made some appearances under Lage at the end of the 2021/22 season, and it was a huge shame when he suffered that awful ACL injury.

Hopefully, he can continue doing well until the end of the season. He will then have the chance to prove himself to O’Neil in pre-season.

With Pedro Neto looking likely to move on, there is potentially a window of opportunity for him and it’s on him to make the most of his chances.
