22-year-old Chelsea player may have blown his chance of becoming a regular starter after last night - opinion

Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk have both been in and out of Chelsea’s team this season.

However, the two Chelsea wingers started in their side’s 6-0 win against Everton last night.

Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk would have been hoping to impress Mauricio Pochettino to keep their places in the side, especially ahead of this weekend.

Chelsea take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley on Saturday.

It is a game that no player will want to start on the bench, while going forward, both Madueke and Mudryk will obviously want to be regulars in Pochettino’s first XI.

Who have Chelsea’s main wingers been this season?

Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling have been the winger combo Pochettino has often gone with in the current campaign, with the former starting on the right and the latter on the left.

However, Palmer can also play as a No.10, where he was used in Chelsea’s impressive victory over Everton last night.

It allowed Madueke to start the game on the right flank.

As for Sterling, he was unavailable, giving Mudryk an opportunity to begin the game on the left.

Chelsea star faces return to bench

Mudryk and Madueke would have wanted to make a good impression yesterday to stay in the team, especially with an FA Cup semi-final coming up.

The latter, though, did anything but. Madueke got into a tussle with Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson after Chelsea were awarded a penalty last night.

The 22-year-old was already fighting for a starting spot, having been named in Pochettino’s first XI just six times in the Premier League this season.

The Argentine was not happy with what he saw. That would not have done Madueke any favours.

The Englands U21 international may have blown his chance of starting at Wembley on Saturday and nailing down a regular spot in this Chelsea team.
