'His injury is not that bad': 23-year-old Chelsea star could actually play against Everton - journalist

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino could have one of his star players available tonight despite him initially being a doubt.

Chelsea take on Everton in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge and head into the game with a lot of injury problems.

The likes of Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia are all sidelined, for example, and are not carrying small issues either.

Injuries have been the story of Chelsea’s season and have obviously not helped them in their bid to return to Europe. Mauricio Pochettino‘s men are currently ninth in the table.

The Blues could be about to receive a major injury boost, however.

Chelsea star’s injury not that bad

James, Nkunku and Lavia are three names that will definitely be unavailable for tonight’s clash versus Everton.

Enzo Fernandez looked likely to join them on the sidelines, with journalist Gaston Edul recently claiming that Chelsea were ready to rest the midfielder because of a small abductor problem.

However, according to another journalist, Simon Phillips, his injury is not a serious one and he could still feature for the Blues tonight.

On his Substack, Phillips wrote: “Hearing he’s actually in for a shot of making the squad tomorrow and his injury is not bad at all.”

Should Enzo Fernandez start against Everton tonight?

Fernandez is one of Chelsea’s best and most important players. This season, the Argentine has made 27 appearances in the Premier League and even chipped in with a few goals.

As per FBref, he has ranked in the 97th percentile for progressive passes among midfielders over the last year.

It would be helpful if Chelsea had a penetrative passer like Fernandez on the pitch tonight, as Sean Dyche teams are not easy to break down.

But the Argentina international should not be risked, especially with an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on the horizon. If he is fit enough to make the matchday squad later, a place on the bench is probably what is best.
