Technical fault at West Berkshire car park pay machines causing problems for motorists

Work is still ongoing to fix problems with the district’s car park pay machines.

Residents have been complaining for several days that the pay on foot machines were not working at a number of Newbury car parks.

West Berkshire Council has said it is working to fix a technical error affecting car park pay machines

West Berkshire Council has now confirmed that five car parks – four in Newbury and one in Hungerford – have “technical issues” which means the pay-on-foot options, using cash or card, cannot be taken.

Parking can only be paid for by phone, but some motorists have said they have struggled to get that system to work too.

The affected car parks are Kennet Centre, Newbury; Corn Exchange (Bear Lane), Newbury; Newbury Library; Northbrook Multi-Storey, Newbury; and Station Road, Hungerford.

A statement from the council said: “We're working hard to restore pay-on-foot facilities as soon as we can.

“In the meantime, we'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while we resolve this issue.”
