Three Seny Dieng replacements Middlesbrough should target in summer, including Rotherham gem - opinion

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Seny Dieng has been linked with a move away in recent weeks.

Dieng, who only signed for Middlesbrough last summer from Millwall, is being touted with a move to a Premier League club.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper has enjoyed a productive debut campaign on Teesside and Boro may find themselves up against it to keep him this summer, particularly with their play-off hopes all but over.

With that said, if he were to depart, Boro News has found three keepers who would be suitable replacements.

Viktor Johansson – Rotherham

Viktor Johansson, despite suffering relegation with Rotherham, has displayed real quality this term and is widely considered one of the best keepers in the Championship.

The former Leicester City academy star was rewarded with an international debut for Sweden in October, playing 45 minutes in a 3-1 win against Moldova.

Johansson is set to be available this summer for just £750,000 due to a release clause in his contract, as per Daily Mirror journalist Dan Marsh.

Aged just 25, he still has plenty of time to develop and would be a fantastic addition to any Championship side.

Karl Darlow – Leeds United

Leeds United’s second-choice keeper Karl Darlow could become available at the end of the season, particularly if the West Yorkshire outfit were to gain promotion.

Darlow is experienced at this level, having made over 150 Championship appearances, so Boro would be getting a reliable and safe pair of hands.

He’s got a promotion on his CV, too, as he went up as a title-winner with Newcastle United during the 2016/17 season.

Boro could do a lot worse and given Leeds forked out £400,000 on his signature last year, he’d be a relatively cheap addition.

James Beadle – Brighton and Hove Albion (on loan at Sheffield Wednesday)

James Beadle is a promising young shot-stopper who is currently enjoying a productive loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

Having excelled in League One with Oxford United during the first half of the season, the 2004-born was fast-tracked to Championship football at the start of the year and has continued his development with The Owls.

Clearly, he’s a player Brighton and Hove Albion will want to keep, though, they may be willing to send him out on loan again and given Boro’s top-flight ambitions, they could be viewed as the perfect next step.
