'Ridiculous': GOP strategist dismisses Trump's naps as being told to 'calm down and relax'

Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump dances off stage at the end of a campaign rally.

Republican strategist Sarah Chamberlain, of the RepublicanMain Street Partnership, thinks that the people in the courtroom who witnessed Donald Trump falling asleep are mistaken.

Chamberlain made the comment to MSNBC on Tuesday morning, moments after Law360 reporter Frank Runyon revealed he saw Trump fall asleep during his hush money trial for a second day in a row.

"First of all, I think it's nice that he's being quiet," Chamberlain said about Trump's first day in court. "I think his lawyers have told him to calm down and relax."

There was a moment on Monday, however, when Trump reportedly got "into his lawyer's face" and demanded he 'fight harder" during the trial.

"I don't think he's falling asleep, though," said Chamberlain, who was not in the courtroom for the proceeding. "I think that's a bit ridiculous to even imply that."

She went on to dismiss the case entirely and call it something that American voters don't even care about.

"With the voters, this is baked in," Chamberlain continued. "We have been talking about Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen for years now. This is the weakest case against the president, so I don't anticipate this will be a huge problem. He's either leading in the polls or tied in the polls in every swing state, and we will have to see what happens with the jury and with the verdict. Right now, I think this is just kind of a waste of time."

Democratic strategist Adrienne Elrod "respectfully" disagreed, noting that the subset of voters who are undecided is so small that contrasting President Joe Biden speaking to Pennsylvania about "what he's delivered for them as a state" with Trump in a courtroom for committing crimes.

Chamberlain went on to admit that the outcome of the trial could have an impact on the race, but said that it could hurt Biden.

"Frankly, if I were President Biden, I do not want President Trump to be found guilty because if Trump cannot run, that's a whole new game, and I think Biden has no chance of winning," she said.

A Trump conviction does not prevent him from running for or even taking office. There is no law in the Constitution that says a felon cannot serve as president.

Mocking the idea that Trump fell asleep in court, the co-hosts of "The View" started off their show playing the Wham! song "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go."
