The council’s executive director of children and family services AnnMarie Dodds said: “We're delighted that we've been able to give so many children their preferred choice of primary school.

“Starting school is a milestone for both children and parents, and we know that getting the school they want makes a huge, positive difference

“We always try very hard to offer as many children as possible one of their preferred schools and it's great that we're so close to achieving 100% this year.

“We wish everyone the best of luck as their primary education begins.”

In Hampshire, 99.05 per cent of parents have been offered a reception year place for their child in one of their three preferred schools, with 93.64 per cent allocated a place at their first preference school.
