Simon Jordan issues response after he’s called out by Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins

Simon Jordan has responded to Ollie Watkins after he was called out by the Aston Villa star before the Villans’ win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Unai Emery’s side produced a fine away performance to secure a much-needed victory. The three points saw Villa leapfrog Tottenham back into the Champions League places after Newcastle United demolished Ange Postecoglou’s side on Saturday lunchtime.

Spurs now sit three points adrift of Emery’s side but hold an all-important game in hand.

Up next for Villa is a trip to Lille on Thursday ahead of Bournemouth’s visit to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

Before the game on Sunday, Simon Jordan was adamant that Watkins wouldn’t cause Arsenal any problems.

The 28-year-old has since responded to the outspoken talkSPORT pundit via The Athletic. He said: “I put talkSPORT on the way to training the other day & heard Simon Jordan saying that he’s not worried about me or Aston Villa causing Arsenal problems. It is nice to prove doubters wrong. Nice for him to eat his own words, really.”

After seeing Watkins’ comments, Jordan responded on his personal X account on Monday.

“Fair comment! It was all a secret motivational tool,” he said. “I like to think all the nice things I’ve said about Mr Watkins over the years have also been heard.”

Jordan wasn’t the only talkSPORT pundit Watkins had in his sights after Sunday’s match. Troy Deeney suggested that the 28-year-old is a winger attempting to play striker.

“I think Ollie. It’s going to sound negative, but I promise you it’s not. He’s a winger trying to be a striker—that’s just who he is. He’s very good at being a striker,” he said.

The Villa star quickly responded and sent the Bluenose a brutal message on Sunday through his Instagram story. Quite why Deeney thinks he has the right to comment on Watkins’ ability is laughable.

After a miserably short managerial career, the former Birmingham City striker should perhaps improve his credibility before belittling one of Europe’s best strikers.
