‘Wound me up’: David Seaman says he saw Emi Martinez do something ‘annoying’ after Villa beat Arsenal

There may not have been a happier man inside the Emirates on Sunday than Emi Martinez.

Not only did the Argentine keep a clean sheet in a win, he got one over his former club at their own stadium.

As many will remember, Martinez was once an Arsenal player, and it’s fair to say that there’s a tinge of bad blood between the two parties after a less-than-amicable departure for the Argentine back in 2020.

Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing Martinez and some of his antics after the final whistle on Sunday, and he says that the Argentine gave the fans a bit on Sunday, stating that the Argentine’s antics wound him up.

What Emi Martinez did after the game

Seaman spoke about the Aston Villa goalkeeper’s antics.

“I was watching him after the game giving him loads. Unai didn’t give it loads afterwards but Emi did. But to be fair to him he deserves to do it as he gets a lot of stick from the Arsenal fans. He has a lot to back it up as well, he is a fantastic goalkeeper. He is that annoying character and really good. It wound me up a bit when I saw it but I thought you deserve it today.”

Emi Martinez was always going to do this

As frustrating as it must be for Arsenal fans to see their former player acting in this way after a win at the Emirates, it can’t come as much of a surprise at this point.

Martinez has made a career out of being world football’s chief wind-up merchant, and he was never going to pass-up the opportunity to get one over the Arsenal fanbase.

Deep down, Martinez does have respect for Arsenal, but on the pitch, he doesn’t care about club allegiances or respect, he just wants to win and rile people up while doing it.
