Former England manager is convinced by 'reborn' Man Utd talent's 'qualities' and wants one elite club to sign him

Former England manager Fabio Capello has suggested that one club should attempt to sign Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood after his career revival in Spain.

Mason Greenwood was shipped out of Old Trafford last summer after La Liga club Getafe offered him a lifeline as part of a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old Manchester United attacker was arrested in 2022 and was suspended from playing or training with the club amid the allegations against him.

The charges against Greenwood, which the United player denied, were dropped in 2023 and the ex-England international attempted to make his comeback in football.

United confirmed after their internal investigation that Greenwood, who came through the club’s youth academy, would not continue to play at Old Trafford.

Despite being under contract with United until 2025, Greenwood was allowed to leave the Red Devils in 2023 and revive his career at Spanish side Getafe.

Capello talks Man Utd loanee Greenwood

Mason Greenwood has made 29 appearances for Getafe across all competitions this season and has scored eight times and registered five assists for the La Liga side.

England boss Gareth Southgate has already ruled out the idea of calling Greenwood back up for the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 campaign in Germany this summer.

Despite not closing the doors on his England career, Getafe forward Greenwood could be offered the route to change international allegiance in the future.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabio Capello admitted that there are “no doubts” in his mind that the former Three Lions international has “qualities.”

“I’ve heard about Greenwood,” he told the Italian newspaper.

“A Manchester United talent who has been affected by personal issues, but seems reborn at Getafe. There are no doubts about his qualities.”

Capello wants one European club to sign Greenwood

Capello shared his two cents on former side Juventus, which he played for in his career and later managed, and the struggles at the Serie A club.

Juventus are third in Serie A this season and are a whopping 20 points adrift from league leaders Inter Milan and six points behind second-place AC Milan.

Capello believes that United player Greenwood could be a big fit for Juventus, who haven’t won a Serie A title since the end of the 2019-20 season.

“Juventus will need at least four quality signings to rival Inter in the title race next season,” he said.

“The Nerazzurri have 20 points more than the Bianconeri, and they have already made progress by signing Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski.

“Juventus need quality in the middle to get closer to Inter.

“Juventus would need one of Inzaghi’s midfielders. There is a lot of noise around Koopmeiners and he’d be a good reinforcement, but he would not be enough, especially if [Adrien] Rabiot leaves.

“From the outside, I have the feeling that before deciding whether to extend, the Frenchman wants to understand whether Juventus want to build a team to win.”
