Plans for ram raid bollards have been submitted for a shop that has been targeted by thieves twice in the last few years.
The Coin & Stamp Centre, at 35a High Street in Hungerford, was hit by ram raiders on New Year’s Eve last year and the owners say they now want to protect the premises from it happening again.
They want to put 11 bollards up.
It was the second time the Coin & Stamp Centre had been ram raided in a little over two years, having also been targeted in September 2021.
The independent business – also known as Philatelic Heritage – was left devastated after the most recent raid, when the front door and window were completely destroyed, leaving a pile of debris on the pavement.
There was also believed to have been significant damage to the interior of the centre as well.
Two cars parked outside of the Coin & Stamp Centre were also damaged during the incident.
A safe was stolen during the raid, which police were called to at around 5am on Sunday, December 31.
At the time of the incident the owner of the centre posted about it on Facebook and there was an outpouring and sympathy and support from Hungerford residents.
Many urged them “not to give up, or think about closing for good—otherwise the culprits have won”.
West Berkshire planners have yet to assess the application for the bollards.
