'Never know': Micah Richards explains the one question mark he has about Ruben Amorim joining Liverpool

Micah Richards has explained why he has ‘one question mark’ about Ruben Amorim succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

At this moment in time, it seems like the favourite to become Liverpool’s next manager is Ruben Amorim.

Given the available candidates, the 39-year-old seems like he would be a shrewd appointment.

Amorim has an exceptional track record in his five years in management so far.

He has won Portuguese Cup title with Braga after just a few months in charge, delivered a league title at Sporting CP for the first time in 19-years, and is on course to repeat that feat this season.

Based on those achievements alone, Amorim may be an even better candidate for the job than Xabi Alonso.

After all, he is not only younger but also has more experience at a high level in the game as manager than Alonso.

But despite his brilliant track record, Micah Richards seems to have some reservations about Amorim joining the club.

Micah Richards on the question mark about Amorim

There is no denying that taking over from Jurgen Klopp will not be an easy task, but Amorim’s pedigree in the game shows promise.

He is definitely one of the better candidates for the role, and someone who all Liverpool fans can get behind. Other candidates may split opinion.

Speaking on The Rest is Football Podcast, Micah Richards was full of praise for Amorim, and described how he plays exciting attacking football.

“I think the way he plays tactically he’d be good,” Richards said.

“In terms of could he be good for Liverpool? Definitely. He’s really intelligent. He plays attacking football. He has evolved as a manager as well because he was at Braga I think as well. He did okay there.”

“Plays three at the back, doesn’t he?” Alan Shearer replied to Richards.

“That’s a big change,” Gary Lineker added.

Richards then went onto explain why he has a question mark about Amorim’s potential appointment.

“The thing is though, can he do it in the Premier League so soon? That’s the one question mark you would have. I’ve heard Liverpool fans saying they would like him. They like his style of football, but you just never know.”

Why Ruben Amorim is perfect for the Liverpool job

We can understand Richards having qualms about Amorim. He is still young and learning his trade.

However, given the style of football that he plays and his track record, he seems like he would be perfect to succeed Klopp.

Additionally, he’s also someone who gives a lot of young players opportunities, which is exactly what Klopp does as well.

In total, 25 players 21-years-old or younger made their debuts under Amorim for Sporting CP so far in his tenure.

So, there would be continuity at Anfield in that sense as well if he was appointed, which is really important.
