'Completely': Jurgen Klopp says 'world-class' Liverpool player made an impact in the second-half vs Palace

According to Jurgen Klopp, there was one Liverpool player who helped change the game in the second half against Crystal Palace.

This has been a horrendous April for Liverpool so far. So horrendous that it is quickly turning into a disaster, and a stark contrast to the highs of March and February that came before it.

With a defeat to Crystal Palace, Jurgen Klopp’s side have fallen toa second consecutive defeat at home for the first time this season – and it a Premier League title now seems to be slipping away from their grasp.

Klopp’s team will have no excuses. They were poor on the day. They allowed Crystal Palace to score way too easily in the first-half, and they wasted a plethora of opportunities at the other end as well.

Things changed slightly in the second half thanks to Klopp’s substitutions, but again the Reds lacked the finishing edge in front of goal.

Jurgen Klopp on how Trent Alexander-Arnold changed things in the second-half

If there was one silver lining for Liverpool in this game, it was the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool vice-captain hasn’t been in action for over two months now, but after sitting on the bench against Atalanta, he finally returned to the side.

It was a welcome sight for Liverpool, although it came at a really unfortunate moment with Conor Bradley seemingly picking up an injury.

Alexander-Arnold definitely changed the momentum of the game and gave Liverpool more control. Immediately, he inverted into central roles. It is no surprise that the Reds created their best chances in the match while he was on the pitch.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Klopp highlighted how Alexander-Arnold changed the game in the second-half.

“The game in the second half was much better, Trent coming on and in the moment the structure changed,” Klopp said.

“We caused problems and we had big big chances. If we stand here and win the game 4-1 we could have seen the same game with a completely different result. But we didn’t so we have to take that.”

Why Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘world-class’

Jermaine Defoe has recently described Alexander-Arnold ‘world-class’ and it’s easy to see why if you delve into the numbers.

According to Wyscout, he ranks in number one spot for the following metrics in the Premier League this season:

  • Passes to the final third (13.78 per 90)
  • Passes to the penalty area (6.03 per 90)
  • Progressive passes (14.87 per 90)
  • Through passes (3.16 per 90)
