'On current form': Ally McCoist now says who's more important to their team - Erling Haaland or Cole Palmer

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland are two of the best players in the Premier League right now.

In fact, they may be the two very best with no other footballer in the top flight having managed to score more goals than them.

Cole Palmer joined his former City team-mate on 20 after scoring four times in Chelsea‘s 6-0 win against Everton on Monday.

In total, the attacker has netted 23 times in all competitions. At this rate, he could become one of the Blues’ all-time top goalscorers.

Chris Sutton has now tipped him to be in contention to be named Player of the Year.

Ally McCoist on Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer

Haaland and Palmer are obviously key players for their respective clubs.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has now been discussing which one more important to his team.

Speaking on talkSPORT (17/04/2024 at 09:57), he said: “I actually think Palmer is more important to Chelsea than Haaland is to City because the big fella is more than capable of popping up tonight with the winner, but Chelsea would not handle the loss of Palmer as easily as City would handle the loss of Haaland.

“City can adapt and have other options, like Haaland, but on current form Palmer is more vital to Chelsea than Haaland is to City.”

Who has been the better player this season, Erling Haaland or Cole Palmer?

Last term, there was no disputing who the top dog in the Premier League was.

Haaland blew all of his competition out of the water, scoring an incredible 36 goals in 35 appearances.

A year later, though, and you can honestly make an argument for Palmer being the superior footballer in the current campaign.

He is matching the Norway international’s output — though a lot of his goals have come from the penalty spot — and has also registered nine assists, making him look like the complete attacker right now.

Everyone knows Haaland can go on a crazy run or score four goals in a single game himself, which would change the complexion of things. But as of now, there is not a better player in the Premier League than Palmer.
