Malo Gusto gives his honest thoughts on Chelsea penalty chaos vs Everton

Chelsea defender Malo Gusto was asked about the penalty incident in his side’s 6-0 victory over Everton on Monday.

After Chelsea had been awarded a spot-kick after a foul on Cole Palmer, there was a bit of a squabble involving the 21-year-old, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke over who would take it.

Palmer was the man who took the penalty in the end and buried it to put the Blues 5-0 up on the night.

But having already scored three goals, Jackson and Madueke both clearly felt that someone else should have been allowed to take it.

Mauricio Pochettino was not happy with the incident and is prepared to take players out of the team if it ever happens again.

It was not pretty watching three Chelsea players fight over the ball, 4-0 up in the game.

Gusto, however, has played down the incident and described it as “normal”.

He told LondonWorld: “No, it’s okay, sometimes this can happen. We are all competitive. Nico wants to score, Noni and Cole as well — it’s normal. It’s important to stay together.

“That’s what we did tonight with the 6-0, we are very happy and we just want to keep pushing for the rest of the season.”

Are things being blown out of proportion?

Again, it was not great to watch, but in the end, no damage was done. Palmer was able to score and Chelsea went on to win 6-0.

When you consider that, it is something that the club can quickly move on from.

Their focus now needs to be on beating Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

Do that, get to the final and win the trophy, and it could end up being a decent season for the club, who are only three points behind sixth place in the league. Hopefully Chelsea captain Reece James gets to lift that trophy at Wembley.
