Ange Postecoglou calls up 'outstanding' teenager compared to Paul Gascoigne to Tottenham training pre-Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to bounce back from their disappointing weekend defeat when they host Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Both Spurs and the Gunners lost their last Premier League games. Tottenham were routed at Newcastle while Arsenal lost to Aston Villa on their own patch.

The stakes are high for both north London sides. Spurs are fighting for a Champions League spot, while the Gunners are in the title race. However, neither is now in pole position.

With that in mind, we could well see Tottenham and Arsenal contest one of the most competitive north London derbies in years.

On Wednesday, the official Spurs website shared photos of their players in training. And one of their best academy prospects was spotted at Hotspur Way.

The player in question is Mikey Moore, a 16-year-old forward who has been likened to the likes of Harry Kane and Paul Gascoigne.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur academy player Mikey Moore?

Moore joined Tottenham at Under-9 level and has risen through the ranks to become a regular for the Under-18s.

The attacking talent is head and shoulders above many of his peers, with 14 goals and eight assists from just 12 U18 Premier League outings this season.

Moore has also played in two FA Youth Cup matches this term, and bagged two goals and one assist in the competition. He is also shining for England’s Under-17s.

Spurs icons Gary Mabbutt and Jermain Defoe have both sung the 16-year-old’s praises in recent months.

“We have a young lad called Mikey Moore, a striker who we hope is going to be in the Harry Kane sort of mould,” Mabbutt said on talkSPORT in March.

Meanwhile, Defoe told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast earlier this season: “I watched him in training and I thought he shouldn’t be doing that at 15 (his age then).

“It’s a big statement, but he reminds me of Gazza a little bit, the way he glides past people, it’s easy and he’s doing it at 15. Hopefully we see him in the Premier League soon.”
