Ruben Amorim could sell three Liverpool players if he was appointed as Jurgen Klopp's replacement - opinion

There are a few players at Liverpool who may not fit into Ruben Amorim’s plans at Anfield if he is appointed as manager.

Ruben Amorim is very much the front runner to be Liverpool’s next manager. He would come with a great CV and a unique style of play, that somewhat resembles Jurgen Klopp’s gegenpress.

But Amorim also has different ideals about the game and methods in comparison to Klopp. Things will not be the same with the Portuguese in charge.

Most notably, he plays with a 3-4-3 system that turns into a 3-2-5 in possession and this may not suit every single one of Liverpool’s players.

There will be some who won’t fit into Amorim’s plans, and who he could be looking to offload as early as this summer.

Why Luis Diaz could be sold by Ruben Amorim

One of the first players who could be sold by Ruben Amorim is Luis Diaz. This seems quite obvious given there is already interest in the Colombian’s services.

But it would make sense as well because Amorim’s system just doesn’t really suit the type of winger Diaz is.

In Amorim’s system, the full-backs, who are wing-backs play more like wingers, whereas the two players in the front three either side of the forward are more like numbers tens who cut into central positions.

Diaz just isn’t that type of player. He is someone who is very good at running at his opposition down the flanks. But he isn’t very effective when entering central areas.

This summer Liverpool could sell him on for a major profit and that’s why he is one of the three Amorim could easily sell.

Who are the other two players Amorim could sell at Liverpool?

This may be a surprise but Mohamed Salah’s future is already up in the air. He turns 32-years-old this summer and has just one year left on his contract.

There will be interest from him in Saudi Arabia and if (as mooted) Liverpool are unlikely to offer him an extension it would make sense to sell him now.

Especially since, just like Diaz, there are question marks whether Salah could fit into Amorim’s system and how suited he would be to playing as a number ten.

The other possible player Amorim could sell is probably more obvious in the sense that it’s Caoimhin Kelleher.

He’s had a brilliant spell this season as the club’s second choice goalkeeper, but this summer he should be looking to move on.

The Reds should also be able to get a relatively high transfer fee for his services, given how impressive he has been. It just makes sense to do a deal for Amorim.
