A 'dream' move: Spanish giants eye Wolves outcast in summer deal

Wolves could finally see the departure of one of their expensive misfits this summer with a move to Spain looking likely.

Since his arrival, Gary O’Neil has witnessed a great deal of success at Wolves. This has seen the shouts for him to win the Manager of the Season award after guiding the club away from any relegation fears.

Much of this can be attributed to the atmosphere in the dressing room. Many of the first-team clearly have a tightly-knit bond with each other which translates to the pitch.

Part of this success is due to the club sending many of its outcasts out on loan. Multiple former first-teamers who are no longer wanted by the manager have been given opportunities to show their abilities elsewhere in order to secure a permanent move.

Daniel Podence, Fabio Silva and Ki-Jana Hoever are just three that have spent a good period away on loan from the club. However, one man who may be set to finally move on is Goncalo Guedes.

Guedes has been a forgotten man at Wolves. Since signing for the club in 2023 for £27.5 million, he has barely featured at Molineux. His debut campaign was cut short after just two goals in 18 games due to his poor performances.

As a result, he was sent out on loan to Benfica which lasted a year before joining Villarreal until the end of the 2023/24 campaign in January.

Now, according to Revelo, the Spanish side are hopeful of retaining the winger on a permanent basis. The report states that Villareal ‘dream’ of keeping the Portuguese international, believing a full pre-season will see him return to his best.

However, a sticky point could be how much Wolves want for the winger and if he is willing to lower his wages.

So far this campaign, Guedes has netted twice in 11 games for Villareal one of which came in a 5-3 victory over Barcelona.

If the interest is there for Guedes, Wolves must let him go. The winger clearly has no future at the club and should cash in on him as soon as possible before his value plummets more.

This is not just an issue with Guedes, but with multiple Wolves players where the club have got their recruitment wrong.

Misfits such as Daniel Podence, Fabio Silva and Ki-Jana Hoever should all be moved on this summer.

The income this could bring could finally help to solve the club’s depth problem that has crippled them throughout 2024.

If Wolves wish to become self-sustaining, holding onto players such as Guedes who will never play at Molineux again makes zero sense.
