2 high-ranking gang members accused in shootings and drug trafficking, authorities say

Two high ranking Jersey City gang members were indicted on racketeering conspiracy charges for their roles in at least two shootings since 2019 and allegedly controlling a large portion of narcotics in the area, U.S. District Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said Wednesday.

Kenneth Harrigan, 27, and Darion Canary, 31, both of Jersey City were charged with racketeering conspiracy that included murder, a shooting and narcotics distribution. The two were already in federal custody on previously filed federal charges and were detained after their arraignment in Newark federal court Tuesday, authorities said.

Harrigan and Canary, also known as “Kenny OGM” and “Goon” respectively, were members of a street gang in the Wilkinson neighborhood ofJersey City and since 2019, and committed multiple acts of violence, authorities said. Officials alleged a July 2019 incident when the pair and another accomplice allegedly traveled to a rival gang’s territory in Jersey City and shot multiple people, killing one.

In a separate shooting, officials said Canary, along with others went to a concert where an opposing gang member was performing in Newark on Jan. 1. They shot a rival before fleeing back to Jersey City, authorities said. Canary was living in a halfway house at the time as part of his sentencing on a related federal narcotics conviction, authorities said.

Investigators said they witnessed and documented dozens of drug transactions in the Wilkinson neighborhood during a months-long investigation, and claim that Harrigan was a primary supplier of narcotics in the area.

Harrigan and Canary along with four other associates were previously charged with drug trafficking offenses in December 2021, officials said.

Attorneys for both Harrigan and Canary did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday evening.
